Learn Something: RJD2 (and remixes)

Philly-based beatsmith RJD2 recently did an AMA on Reddit, check it out here. An interesting and humble dude, no doubt.  His new album "More Is Than Isn't" is dropping October 8th (ITunes).

Since you're here, enjoy some 'not-so-common' RJD2 (re)mixes:

The Glow (Flosstradamus Remix) - RJD2

[DOWNLOAD via ZippyShare]

Some time ago, when RJD2 released the stems for his single "Glow", Chicago tastemakers Flosstradamus floated this remix, a head-nodding, slick nu-disco take.  With a funky bass-line, steady kick-drum, disco cowbells, and RJD2's catchy synth and piano work, it's perfect opening set material.  If you let this slept-on heater slip through your fingers when it came out, download it via the Zippyshare link above.

RJD2 - The Glow (Run DMT Moombahton Remix)
The build is funky, and the drop is '#PLURNT''.
(Perhaps too glitchy and siren-y for my taste, but hey - different strokes for different folks)

The Notorious B.I.G & RJD2 - Juicy Ghostwriter (Victor Ekman Bootleg)
Nothing earth-shattering here, but a basic blend of RJD2's classic Ghostwriter and Biggie's Juicy that will please the back-pack wearing hip-hop enthusiast during your opening set at your girlfriend's ex-boyfriend's 'byob' "art show" at that loft space with absolutely no street parking for blocks.

[Mix Showcase] Diplo Meets RJD2

Running just past 17 minutes, this is one of the few mixes that has lived on my Ipod since I downloaded it in 2004.  Apparently a limited-edition vinyl was released with a mysterious Haul & Mason B-Side. Any crate diggers out there have this ripped?

I don't even know what to say about this...It's the right amount of weird and funky.  It's great.  Diplo's first album had been out for a hot minute on Big Dada and he was entering the globetrotting phase of his career with the release of MIA's Piracy Funds Terrorism.  RJD2's instant classic 'Soul Positions' was released by Def Jux AND I had recently discovered the genius that is Prefuse 73 - safe to say 2004 was a great year for downtempo hip-hop and electronica.  Anyhow, getting back on track - this is one of the coolest and most unique mixes I've come across and I love it to death, and hope you do too.

P.S. IF ANYONE HAS THE CAT POWER 'SAY' REMIX THAT HITS AT THE 6min MARK HOLLER AT YOUR BLOGGER!

- Peace! - @DJALYKHAN
